2K-3.0 ERW Mill with Quick-Change (15.8 - 79.3 mm O.D. Range) - Mexico 2008

Abbey International was awarded a contract in June 2007 for 2K-3.0 Mill with entry equipment for a customer in Mexico. This new installation will be able to produce tube with O.D. minimum of 15.8 mm (0.625") to 79.3 mm (3.125), and also will be able to produce squares and rectangles.

The main feature on this mill is that changeover times for changing the forming, fin, and sizing sections of the mill using two people is approximately ten minutes. This mill will be capable of this quick changeover because we have incorporated Abbey International Patented Third Stand Quick-Change System and Driven Continuous Cart Transfer (CCT) System.

The Patented Third Stand Quick-Change System is the one of the most productive systems we offer for quick change. When using the automatic or semi-automatic mill quick changeover systems, all mill driven stand spindles are automatically disconnected and reconnected to their respective drive units. To accomplish this, we have developed a third stand design with our proprietary automatic coupling locating features. This design consists of conventional front and rear stand housing assemblies which are mounted on the exchangeable sub-bases and third stand assemblies which are mounted on the fixed mill bases. The conventional stand driven spindles are interconnected to the third stand spindles through the use of specially designed quick disconnect type couplings.

The patented Continuous Cart Transfer (CCT) is a driven cart system which is designed to receive sub-plated mill sections during semi-automated changeover of the mill, which eliminates the use of an overhead crane for sub-base exchange. The cart is a fabricated structure with an integral drive system to motivate it parallel to the mill line.
